The College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) is the federally funded program to help students from migrant and seasonal worker background. CAMP helps first year college students to succeed and connect to the university. I was part of the 2013-2014 cohort. CAMP help me transition from high school to college. Another thing that was important for me personaly was the emotional support that they gave me. Without CAMP i would of been lost and struggle a lot more to fit in to OSU.
Goals:
To help students enroll at OSU and Finish their first year
Increase the presence of studnets their second year
Before coming to Oregon State University I was part of the Moviemento Estdiantil Chicano de Atzlan (M.E.Ch.A) at my school . M.E.Ch.A is a student organization that promotes higher education, culture and history. I became part of this my Junior year in high school, I was the treasure. When I came to OSU i became part of M.E.Ch.A here. Some of the things that we did was Chicanito Tour were we brought students from different high school to see Campus. I really enjoyed being part of this program and realized how much more we can do for student as college students. Unfortunately with my other positions at OSU I have been unable to continue going to M.E.Ch.A, but I hope to get back and help this upcoming year.
University Housing and Dining Services
I became part of University Housing and Dining Services in January 2015. I got the opportunity to be a Resident Assistant for Halwley-Buxton Resident Hall. A Residents Assistance (RA) is present in the resident halls to help students living there be successful and have someone that they can talk to when they feel that they are struggling. RA's are also in the building to ensure that it is a safe living environment. From September 2015 to June 2016 I was a RA in Poling Hall. This experience has made me see the importance of having someone experience to help you figure out solutions to problems.
Just this year I became part of TRiO and can't wait to see what it has to offer me. TRiO is a program at Oregon State University that helps students throughout their college years. They help students growth academically and motivate students to continue their studies and be active in the University. So far these past months that I have been part of TRiO I have felt supported. I also feel that its nice to talk to someone of what you are up to and that way it kind of makes one realized on what your doing and see if that is the direction that you want to take. Talking to my advisor has helped me see thing that I didnt really realized before.
