Oregon Migrant Leadership InstituteThe Oregon Migrant Leadership Institute (OMLI) is provided by the OSU College Assistance Migrant Program and the Oregon Department of Education. OMLI brings high school students to Oregon State University every year in the summer. The students that attend this institute get to stay on campus and experience what it is to live on campus as well as to eat in their dining centers. Other things that they take part of are sessions and these vary from informational sessions to team building sessions. Something else is that these students get two mentors for their time being here, but that is not it they can still have contact with their mentor for support. Something that I do want to emphasize is that this program has help many students see the potential that they have and eventually the students become leaders after attaining the confidence that they need. I am an example of that.

BoundingAs mentioned in the paragraph above something that I really like about OMLI is the bonding that occurs within a week. In the first day students are not comfortable and shy to take initiative to talking to someone. At the end of the week that is another story everyone is talking to each other and not wanting to say their goodbyes. Through the week students make friendships with one another some that last for a long time. The mentors are also an important aspect on bounding, the students get to feel connected and see someone that can help them. Once the mentor bonds with the students they also help them see their potential.
